After School Programs

For children whom our day programs may not be appropriate, Kerria International School is happy to offer an English language child care as well as a selection of outstanding classes to develop your child’s English skills.

Please see below for a brief description of all of our after school programs and please feel free to contact us for more information on our programs or to see if one of our classes is right for your child.

English Language Child Care

Our English language child care is a relaxed program designed to introduce your young child to the English language in a play based environment. Children attending our child care program are anywhere between the ages of 2 and 6 years old, however children who are 1.5 years old are welcome with mom in attendance.

Children play and interact with our native level English teacher, and often participate in crafting activities. As young children are designed to learn languages, it is never too early to introduce your child to the sounds and rhythms of a second language.

First English

Our First English class is designed for children who are between the ages of 3 and 6 years old and have no prior English knowledge. The class goal is to introduce children to English and get them excited about using and learning the language. Class activities are designed to be fun and exciting and introduce them the English alphabet, phonics, and increase their vocabularies.

Children will learn through a variety of different age appropriate activities including song, dance, games, and arts and crafts. Each class features new stories and vocabulary. Our hope is to build a strong English foundation that your child can use as they enter our more advanced English classes.

Second English

Second English was created to directly follow and build on the foundation students acquired in First English. Students taking this class were previously taking our First English or are between the ages of 3 and 6 years old. The Second English student has some prior English experience and can identify most letters, numbers, colors, shapes, and has a small bank of vocabulary words.

Children enrolled in this class focus on building their vocabularies and developing the confidence to make use of it through a variety of academic activities designed to give them more speaking and writing opportunities. Children will learn how to form and write short sentences and will role play simple dialogue scenarios. As with all of our classes at Kerria International School, children are exposed to new books and vocabulary words each class.

Beginning ESL

Beginning ESL is targeted for elementary students ages 6 – 9 years old and have little or no prior English experience. As this class is designed for older students, it has a more academic focus and children will be expected to engage in more reading and writing. Along with working out of our designated text book, the class makes use of a variety of different learning games to increase student engagement and drill vocabulary and grammar concepts.

Advanced ESL

Advanced ESL is a class designed for elementary children between the ages of 9 and 11 years old. These students have some experience with English and are comfortable using it in classroom and conversational scenarios. Children focus on vocabulary, spelling, reading comprehension, parts of speech, and building conversational skills.

Advanced ESL makes use of a text book and a variety of age appropriate songs and games to make English real and exciting. Every effort is made to tailor directly to student interests to bring English to life and connect it directly to the world outside of the classroom. It is the goal of this class to create and keep children excited and interested in continuing their English education.

Advanced English

Advanced English is designed for older elementary students aged 9 to 11 years old. Students interested in taking this class should have a high to near native English level and the confidence to use the language in and out of the classroom in a variety of different circumstances.

Students enrolled in this after school class will focus on building their vocabulary, increasing their spelling and writing skills, and developing a stronger reading comprehension. Children will read a variety of different texts and have the opportunity to speak in front of other children and adults to further develop their confidence and conversational skills. The goal of this class is to increase fluency in the English language and provide native level speaking opportunities to your child.
